About Gallows Wood Recovery

Established in 1963, Gallows Wood Recovery is a family owned business committed to the provision of a reliable, personal, and friendly service. Our Managing Director, Nick Curtin joined the business at 16 as an apprentice HGV mechanic. As Nick progressed his apprenticeship he soon became involved in vehicle breakdown and recovery operations, gaining the experience and qualifications required. Nick quickly progressing to Workshop Foreman and onto General Manager, before acquiring the business.

Under Nick's ownership the business has rapidly expanded, increasing the number of employees, vehicles and the area in which Gallows Wood Recovery operates. Nick can proudly state that under his leadership Gallows Wood Recovery were instrumental in the implementation of the industry quality standard PAS 43, having been the first company to be accredited to the standard. In addition we are accredited to ISO 9001 ensuring we offer the highest standard of quality in all aspects of the business and NHSSD 17/17B allowing Gallows Wood Recovery to operate at Highway Construction Sites and on Controlled roads.

As a leading Vehicle Recovery Operator (VRO) all of our commercial vehicle recovery staff are trained to VR1, VR2 & VR3 alongside other specialist modules which provide them with the skills and expertise relevant for the work that they carry out.

Our focus on quality is acheived through continuous improvement and the standards of excellence we acheive are backed by independent bodies and external assessments. This ensures we continue to provide a quality of service which our customers will be happy with.

We work closely with National and Local Companies, Police Forces, National Recovery Agents and Insurance Companies.

PAS 43:2015

We are proud to say that Gallows Wood Recovery were instrumental in the introduction and implementation of the Industry Standard PAS 43 and were the first company in the UK to be accredited to this standard. PAS 43 is the specification for vehicle breakdown and recovery operators and is the publicly available management system specification for the safe working of vehicle breakdown and recovery operations.

National Highways Sector Schemes (NHSS) are bespoke quality management systems for organisations working on the UK road network. The sector schemes 17/17b are based around the ISO9001:2008 and PAS43 standards, but do not duplicate them. The schemes aim to make sure that work is carried out to the highest standards of professionalism, using properly trained staff. They also place a strong emphasis on health and safety.

Driver CPC - Driver Certificate of Professional Competence

The Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC) is a qualification for professional bus, coach and lorry drivers. It has been introduced across Europe with the professed aim of improving road safety and helping to maintain high standards of driving.
